The Israeli Aircraft Industries (IAI) Westwind 1124 evolved from the Rockwell Jet Commander built in Bethany, OK. The product was sold to IAI, where they stretched the Jet Commander, installed the Honeywell TFE731 engines and in 1976 introduced the Westwind 1124. The Westwind I was introduced in 1979. The major changes were the relocation of the avionics from under the couch to the rear of the aircraft and a recessed floor in the potty area. In 1980, IAI started production of the Westwind II which offered a redesigned wing that included winglets, giving the aircraft better high altitude airport performance. IAI stopped production of the aircraft in 1987 in order to better promote the company's latest aircraft, the Astra 1125. The Westwind will cruise at 430 knots with a non-stop range from Los Angeles to New York. It is truly one of the most efficient corporate jets flying today.
